end of july

i am officially free from work until next wednesday. day after tomorrow i'm driving to blackburg, virginia to spend the weekend with kirk, his family, and his friend chris. i realized that all of the trips i'm taking this summer, with the exception of the weekend in new york to see rilo kiley with brad, are to virigina. went camping there, going to blacksburg, going to virginia beach in august... yikes.

i finally had a chance to go to the gym this morning. i haven't been in like a week and my body knows it. i found a new machine over by the windows that is like a stairclimber-ellipse thing and it didn't hurt at all to do for long periods of time. i was beginning to wonder if it did any good at all when a horrible stich in my side let me know it was working.

they're changing all the rules at work. new scheduling system blah blah blah where there are very specific assignments for the day and weird hours and while i'm still having a good time, i'm getting the general sense that it is time to get out. convenient, as we are coming up on august, and august is like one great big long sunday night.

i need to get my hair done. it's more than halfway down my back and that's really long. i'm thinking i'll go in the next week or two and get about four inches taken off. i love the layers, but some of them ought to be evened out, and i want to get some highlights put in.

another sonogram and doctor's appointment coming up next week. cross your fingers.

one hundred years of solitude is amazing. i'm about three quarters of the way through it. when i think about it i get the sense that it is boring but every time i pick it up i get sucked into the family's story. i wind up thinking over things in the shower and while i'm driving, which is the sign of a good book.

it rained for about three minutes and now it is very dark and stormy here. i have all the lights turned off and am sitting at my desk which faces a window so i can watch the storm. lots of lightening and thunder and that makes the best rain.

matt is leaving for l'espagne tomorrow, where he will be spending the month of august. however jealous i may be that he gets to live in europe before i do, i am consoled by the fact that i get the car to myself for a month, a week at the beach, and then i get to live in europe. so it works. he will bring me alcohol. spanish wine. i'm all set.

man this storm is crazy big. i'm going to go watch from the bay window in the living room.
